It’s been a very busy summer for our business and we didn’t even get started until late September. I had so many ideas to get out, so many ideas to get things done, so many ideas to make money…and then I had this crazy idea, and we didn’t have the time or money to do it.
You know its no fun getting the word out about the business you’re in, right? With the deadline approaching, and all the other people trying to get things done, there is no way we can do it all ourselves, so we need to hire someone. Who? Well we need someone that will do what we cannt and does what we need to do. I have no idea who to hire for this, but if you want to come do what we do, we need you to come.
The company we’re talking about is Cobham. They’re a small company that creates and sells various gadgets and tools. One of their latest devices is the Cobham Laser Microphone. Its designed to do exactly what we need it to do better and faster: record sound.
The Laser Microphone will probably sound better than any other device we’ve tried. The thing is, it has a built-in microphone which records sound that’s being played back to be heard in the recording. It is very convenient for a lot of things, but one of the downsides is that the sound it records is very loud. We’re talking about one of the most exciting things in the world, but it’s a bit of a downside.
The Laser Microphone does exactly what its designed to do, but it is very noisy, which means it has a downside. It won’t record anything that you are not talking to it, and it will only record sounds that are coming your way. So if youre in the middle of a conversation and its getting loud and you want it to stop and let you talk through the sound, you cant really do that. Its also not very good at capturing high frequency sounds (like talking to someone).
So, if youre constantly speaking on the phone or in the car then its not going to be a good idea for you to record anyone. The Laser Microphone might be good at recording the sounds your talking to, but its just not going to be as good at recording the noise you talk to.
That, and you can’t really find a good sound-capturing microphone out there for the iPhone, so we can’t use one. What we can do though is record our conversations for later comparison. The other problem with capturing the sound you’re talking to is that it can be easily distracting. As soon as you hit record you can hear all sorts of things going on in the background, and it can be hard to focus on what you’re saying.
The other side of the coin is when youre talking to someone who is using their phone, you cant really hear them over the background noise. You can only hear them as theyre talking over the background noise.
I was talking to a co-worker about my problem with my phone lately. He said that the phone just doesn’t seem to pick up the background noise that hes using for recording, which is annoying, to say the least. I don’t really know what to do about it other than to turn down the sound.
It was the same problem with my boss. He has a phone that is really loud, but he uses this very high quality speaker. It is pretty loud, so you can almost hear him over the background noise, but it wont pick up the actual conversation. I was talking to him about the same problem and he said how he would get a new speaker and try it out.
